Make sure that these Spanish structures (auxiliary  verb + verb) don’t trick you. In these cases, you have to avoid literal translations from English:

1) TO STOP DOING SOMETHING = PARAR DE HACER ALGO DEJAR DE HACER ALGO

I stopped reading when Mark got home —- Dejé de leer cuando Mark llegó a casa.

2) TO HAVE BEEN DOING SOMETHING *= HABER ESTADO HACIENDO ALGO LLEVAR + TIEMPO + HACIENDO ALGO

I have been studying Spanish for three months —— Llevo tres meses estudiando español/ Llevo estudiando español tres meses.

3) TO BE NECESSARY TO + INFINITIVE = SER NECESARIO QUE/DE + INFINITIVO HAY QUE + INFINITIVO

Before pick up your car, you must pay your ticket —— Antes de recoger el coche, hay que pagar el tíquet.

4) IT IS POSSIBLE/IMPOSSIBLE TO + INFINITIVE = ES POSIBLE/IMPOSIBLE QUE/DE + INFINITIVO SE PUEDE/NO SE PUEDE + INFINITIVO (forma impersonal)/ PODER + INFINITIVO (forma personal)

Is it possible to take two lessons per week? ——- ¿Se pueden hacer dos clases a la semana? ¿Puedo hacer dos clases a la semana?
